If you’re trying to get the most out of your Facebook adverts but you’ve only just started, you might be making some of the simple mistakes that so many people are guilty of making. Before you spend any more money, here are some common mistakes which you should try to avoid when advertising on Facebook.

  1. Advertising only to your fans

If they already like your page, you don’t necessarily need to advertise to them. Sure, they might not see all of your posts, but they know who you are, what you do and what you’re trying to promote, so there’s no need to waste money telling them again. It doesn’t hurt to advertise to your current followers once a week or so or if you’re having a special deal or offer.

  1. Not knowing what you want

If you don’t know what you’re trying to achieve through Facebook ads, you’ll waste lots of money experimenting and wondering why nothing is working very well. Think about whether you want more clicks to your website, more email subscribers, more followers and so on.

  1. Targeting that is too broad

Many people make the mistake of targeting their posts to audiences which are much too broad. They believe that by reaching out to a wider audience, there is more chance of getting extra business. However, this isn’t the case, since the majority of people seeing the post won’t even look or bother to click and read more. The better you target your audience, the more business you will receive.

  1. Advertising old posts

You’ve creating a great post, advertised it and can’t understand why it didn’t attract more attention than you initially thought it would. Sometimes, that’s just the way it goes, so rather than going back time and time again and trying to advertise the same thing in order to get better luck, move on from it and try a different type of ad that might work better.

  1. Text only ads

Text is boring in the best of situations, so if you’re trying to catch the attention of people who are attempting to pass the time by scrolling through Facebook, you will have to try a lot harder in order to get them interested. Try posting images, video links and web links to your website.

  1. Not getting the right balance of sales tactics

You have to keep people guessing and leave them wondering about a certain thing so that they will click your link or come to your page to find out more. Always leave your ads with a bit of mystery, but don’t make them look like clickbait, since people will run a mile from this.
